Bringing peace and repentance through the atonement of Jesus Christ

“7 And now, because of the covenant which ye have made ye shall be called the children of Christ, his sons, and his daughters; for behold, this day he hath spiritually begotten you; for ye say that your hearts are changed through faith on his name; therefore, ye are born of him and have become his sons and his daughters.
8 And under this head ye are made free, and there is no other head whereby ye can be made free. There is no other name given whereby salvation cometh; therefore, I would that ye should take upon you the name of Christ, all you that have entered into the covenant with God that ye should be obedient unto the end of your lives.
9 And it shall come to pass that whosoever doeth this shall be found at the right hand of God, for he shall know the name by which he is called; for he shall be called by the name of Christ.”

Mosiah 5:7-9

Jesus Christ laid down his life to save all mankind. When we take upon ourselves the atonement by making a covenant with Him, to take upon ourselves His name, we receive the right to be forgiven of the wrong that we do. Christ will bear our burdens and take that sin from us because he loves us so much.

When I was young, I didn’t understand this fully. I still don’t, honestly, but as I get older I am learning to grasp the concept better. We cannot truly find peace alone if we understand that when we do wrong by other people, they are hurt. Guilt can eat us up from the inside out. The atonement gives us the assurance that if we repent, do all we can to repair the damage, and give that burden to Christ, we can find peace.

It is my prayer that as we grow to know the Savior better that we will be better. We truly are brothers and sisters when we are born in Christ. If we all strive to do what is right, the world will benefit, fear and anger will be lessened, and peace will take its place.
